Three crosses, two choices

Luke 23:32-43

Jesus said; “I tell you today you will be with me in paradise” Luke 23:43

These verses found in the Gospel of Luke tells the story of two criminals sentenced to die along with Jesus. Most likely these two individuals were not prepared for what was about to happen. At the end of their lives, one of them continued to resist the saving love of God, while the other humble himself and asked Jesus to save him. What difference that made in the spiritual life of this man! A man died without God, the other died with peace, knowing that from that moment he would be walking with Jesus in paradise. There were three crosses on Golgotha that Friday, one man die in his sin, one man died to his sin, and the last man, Jesus, die for sin.

The first cross represents; Rejection. The first criminal represents all of those who refuse to bow before the King of kings and Lord of lords. This man used his knowledge to mock Jesus like the rest of the crowd. This criminal was looking for a way to escape punishment, not forgiveness. The second cross represents: Reception. The second criminal apparently had a change of heart as he watched Jesus and the events that surrounded him. He admitted his own guilt. He acknowledge that he and the other criminal deserved the penalty they had received. He reached out to Jesus. This man who had rebelled against God all his life, now sought His forgiveness. This is an incredible request. The only thing more incredible is the fact that is was granted. Before anyone can find forgiveness and new life, they have to come to the point where they acknowledge their own sin. The third cross represents: Redemption. This is the cross of Jesus. The Bible tell us that sin is a capital offense. Romans 6:23 said: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. A person who is condemned to death for his own sin cannot pay for my sin. Jesus is the only one who can serve as a substitute. He paid it all.

This is a powerful story because it show us one man missed eternal life and was destined to hell and another who was made new in a moment and granted eternal life in Heaven. Three crosses, two choices. You can either reject His offer of salvation and eternal life just as one criminal did or you can accept His offer of salvation and eternal life. One choose to turn away from the truth, the other decided to bet his life on that truth. God has made salvation simple so every person can be saved. Jesús dijo; "Os digo que hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso " Lucas 23:43

Estos versículos que se encuentran en el Evangelio de Lucas cuentan la historia de dos criminales condenados a morir junto con Jesús. Muy probablemente estos dos criminales no estaban preparados para lo que estaba a punto de suceder. Al final de su vida, uno de ellos continuo resistiendo el amor salvador de Dios, mientras que el otro, se humillo y le pregunto a Jesús si podía salvarlo. ¡Qué diferencia esto hizo en la vida espiritual de este hombre! Un hombre murió sin Dios, el otro murió en paz, sabiendo que a partir de ese momento, él estaría caminando con Jesús en el paraíso. Hubo tres cruces en Gólgota aquel viernes, un hombre murió en su pecado, un hombre murió a su pecado, y el último hombre, Jesús, murió por el pecado.

La primera cruz representa; Rechazo. El primer criminal representa a todos aquellos que se niegan a inclinarse ante el Rey de reyes y Señor de señores. Este hombre utiliza su conocimiento para burlarse de Jesús, como el resto de la multitud. Este criminal estaba buscando una manera de escaparse del castigo, no el perdón. La segunda cruz representa: Recepción. El segundo criminal tuvo al parecer un cambió de corazón al ver a Jesús y los acontecimientos que lo rodearon. Admitió su culpabilidad. Él reconoce que él y el otro criminal merecían la pena que habían recibido. Él se acercó a Jesús. Este hombre que se había rebelado contra Dios durante toda su vida, ahora busca su perdón. Esta es una petición increíble  La única cosa más increíble es el hecho de que es fue concedida. Antes de que alguien pueda encontrar el perdón y la nueva vida, tiene que llegar al punto en el que reconocen su propio pecado. La tercera cruz representa: Redención. Esta es la cruz de Jesús. La Biblia nos dice que el pecado es una ofensa capital. Romanos 6:23 dice: Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, más la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro. Una persona que es condenada a muerte por su propio pecado no puede pagar por mi pecado. Jesús es el único que puede servir como un sustituto  Él lo pagó todo.

Esta es una historia de gran alcance ya que nos muestra a un hombre que perdió la vida eterna y está destinado al infierno y otro que fue hecho nuevo en un momento y le fue concedida la vida eterna en el Cielo. Tres cruces, dos opciones. Usted puede rechazar la oferta de salvación y la vida eterna al igual que uno de los criminales hizo o puedes aceptar su oferta de salvación y la vida eterna como hizo el otro. Uno opto por alejarse de la verdad  el otro decidió apostar su vida en la verdad. Dios ha hecho la salvación sencilla para que cada persona puede ser salva. ¿Cuál es tu decisión? Que Dios te bendiga y te guarde.

¿Qué necesita el Señor?

Lucas 19:28-38

“Y si alguien les preguntare; ¿Por qué lo desatáis? les responderéis así; Porque el Señor lo necesita (Lucas 19:31)

Este próximo domingo el mundo cristiano celebrara lo que comúnmente conocemos como el Domingo de Ramos o entrada triunfal de Jesús a Jerusalén. Este evento marca el principio de la Semana Santa, una época donde celebramos la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesús. La historia de la entrada triunfal de Jesús a Jerusalén es una historia bien conocida por cristianos y no cristianos. Pero hoy, no quiero hacer énfasis en el evento, sino quiero presentarles a ustedes otra parte de la historia que muchas veces no es referida con mucha importancia, pero quizás sea otra pieza bien importante de este evento. La persona envuelta en este evento no es mencionada por nombre en la narración. Me refiero al dueño del pollino.

La Biblia no da muchos detalles acerca de esta persona. Tampoco nos presenta la causa o las causas por las cuales el accedió a pedido de los discípulos de Jesús de utilizar el pollino para el viaje a Jerusalén. Lo que nos presenta el pasaje es a una persona llena de fe, dispuesta a honrar y servir al Señor con lo que posee. Hay tres enseñanzas que podemos aprender de la actitud de esta persona. Primero, el verdadero creyente esta dispuesto a dar lo que tiene al Señor. ¿Qué el Señor necesitaba? Un pollino y eso fue lo que recibió de este hombre. La Biblia no menciona cuantos pollinos esta persona poseía. Eso es irrelevante. Los pollinos eran valiosos. La enseñanza es que lo que este hombre poseía, se lo dio al Señor. Segundo, el verdadero creyente sabe que lo que tiene pertenece al Señor. Todo lo que nosotros poseemos, ha sido dado a nosotros como un regalo de parte de Dios. Todo nuestro tiempo, talento y tesoro han sido dado a nosotros para administrarlos. En algún momento, Dios te va a pedir utilizar esos talentos para Su gloria, honra y servicio. El es el dueño, nosotros los administradores.

Y por ultimo, el verdadero creyente sabe que el valor de lo que posee es multiplicado cuando están en las manos de Jesús. El hombre solo tenia un pollino, se lo dio a Jesús y miren el valor que adquirió cuando fue puesto en las manos de Dios. ¿qué tu estas dispuesto a dar a Cristo hoy? El verdadero creyente da al Maestro lo que el Maestro necesita. Que el Señor te bendiga y te guarde siempre.

What the Lord needs?

Luke 19:28-38

If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it? Say this; “The Lords needs it”.   (Luke 19:31)

This coming Sunday the Christian world celebrated what is commonly known as Palm Sunday or Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This event marks the beginning of Holy Week, a time where we celebrate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. The story of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is well known to Christian and non-Christian alike. But today, I don not want to emphasize this event, but I want to introduce to you another part of the story that is not often mentioned with great importance, but perhaps it plays a central part of this event. The person involved in this event is not mentioned by name in the story. He is the owner of the donkey.

The Bible does not give many details about this person. Neither presents the cause or causes for which he agreed to the request of the disciples of Jesus to use the donkey for the Lord’s journey to Jerusalem. What this passage illustrates to us is a person full of faith, willing to honor and serve the Lord with what he has. There are three lessons we can learn from the attitude of this person. First, the true believer is willing to give what you has to the Lord. What the Lord needed? A donkey and that's what he secured from this man. The Bible does not mention how many donkeys this man had. That is irrelevant. Donkeys were valuable. The lesson is that what this man had, he gave it to the Lord. Second, the true believer knows that what he have belongs to the Lord. Everything we own has been given to us as a gift from God  All our time, talent and treasure have been given to us to manage. At some point, God will ask for those talents to be use for His glory, honor and service. He is the owner, we administrators.

And finally, the true believer knows that the value of what you own is multiplied when it is place in the hands of Jesus. The man only had a donkey, and he gave it to Jesus and look at the value it acquired when it was put in the hands of God. What you are willing to give Christ today? The true believer gives the Master what the Master needs. May the Lord bless you and keep you always.

El valor de la Amistad

Eclesiastés 4:9-10

“Mejores son dos que uno; porque tienen mejor paga de su trabajo. Porque si cayeren, el uno levantará a su compañero; pero ¡ay del solo! que cuando cayere, no habrá segundo que lo levante”.

Este pasado fin de semana tuve la oportunidad de compartir con un grupo de viejas amistades las cuales aprecio mucho. Fue hermoso recordar viejas anécdotas e historias del pasado, compartir las historias del presente y recordar las travesuras que hicimos como estudiantes hace unos 35 años. Inclusive, ir al salón de clases y compartir con nuestra maestra de aquel entonces, fue algo hermoso. Algo que puedo decir acerca de este grupo de amistades conocido como el “9-4” es que a través de los años hemos conocido el valor de la amistad.

El rey Salomón, el autor de estas palabras quiere que entendamos cuan valiosa es la amistad. Amistad es uno de los tesoros más preciados de la vida. La mejor inversión que uno puede hacer en esta vida, no es una financiera, sino una inversión en un amigo(a). Mientras compartía con mis amistades y escuchaba sus historias, observé ciertas características que dan valor a nuestra amistad. Primero, un verdadero amigo ve más allá de sus propios intereses. Quizás tu cuenta de Facebook tenga cientos y cientos de amigos, pero el verdadero amigo es aquel que cuando tu llamas a las 2:00 am no se queja sino que te dice; ¿Dónde estas? Hay un sentimiento de devoción y compromiso.

Segundo, un verdadero amigo esta a tu lado en los momentos difíciles. Alguien ha señalado que en los tiempos de abundancia vas a tener un montón de amigos, pero es en el momento de la adversidad que descubres quiénes son tus verdaderos amigos. La verdadera amistad es un compromiso con el bienestar de la otra persona. El verdadero amigo se preocupa lo suficiente como para hablar cuando ve que su amigo esta haciendo algo destructivo. Y por ultimo, un verdadero amigo, cumple sus palabras. Los verdaderos amigos son personas con las que puedes contar. Ellos dicen que van a hacer algo y tu puedes estar seguro de que lo harán.

La gran cosa acerca de los buenos amigos es, que a pesar de que pueden estar separados durante semanas o meses a la vez, cuando están juntos, inmediatamente comienzan a hablar donde dejaron de hablar la última  vez. Debemos recordar que no hay mayor privilegio que ser llamado amigo de Dios. Jesús merece ser tu mejor amigo porque El te conoce mejor que nadie. Una definición de amistad es: alguien quien conoce todo acerca de ti y todavía quiere continuar la amistad. Proverbios 18:24 nos recuerda; “Hay amigos que llevan a la ruina; y hay amigos más fieles que un hermano” (NIV). Al 9-4, que el Señor les bendiga y les guarde siempre. Será hasta la próxima.

Valora el amigo que, para ti, encuentra tiempo en su calendario, pero aprecia el amigo que, para ti, ni siquiera consulta a su calendario". Robert Brault

The Value of Friendship

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:

If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. ¡But pity anyone who falls! and has no one to help them up”.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to share with a group of old friends that I appreciate a lot. It was wonderful to remember stories from the past; sharing stories of the present and laugh while remembering the pranks we did as students 35 years ago. Even going back to the old classroom and sharing with our teacher from back then, was beautiful. One thing I can say about this group of old friends, known as the “9-4” is that through the years we have learned the value of friendship.

            King Solomon, the author of these words wants us to understand the value of friendship. Friendship is one of life’s most cherished treasures. It is so valuable that the best investment you can make in life is not a financial one, but an investment in a friend. As I shared with my friends and listened to their stories, I observed certain characteristics that gave value to our friendship. Frist, a true friend sees beyond his/her own interests. Maybe your Facebook account has hundreds and hundreds of friends, but the real friend is the one who, when you call at 2:00 am, is not going to complaint but will tell you: where are you? A true friend is a person with whom you don’t have to pretend; you can be “real.”

There is a sense of commitment and devotion.

            Second, a true friend stands with you through tough times. Someone has pointed out that in the times of abundance you will have plenty of friends, but it is in the times of adversity that you discover who your true friends are. True friendship is a commitment to the well being of the other person. The true friend cares enough to speak up when they see a friend doing something destructive. Finally, true friends keep their words. True friends are people you count on. They say they are going to do something and you can be sure they will do it.

The great thing about good friends is that even though you may be separated for weeks or months at a time, when you get together, you pick up right where you left off. We must remember that there is no greater privilege than to be called a friend of God. A definition of friendship is someone who knows all about you and still wants to continue to be your friend. Jesus should be your best friend because He knows you better than anyone else. Proverbs 18:24 say: “Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family” (The Message).

1 Juan 5:14-17

¿Se ha preguntado alguna vez porque nosotros tenemos una lucha en nuestra vida de oración? Para muchos, orar no es una tarea fácil y muchas personas tienen una gran dificultad comunicándose con Dios a través de la oración. Yo creo que muchas veces tenemos problemas orando porque pensamos que Dios está muy ocupado para escuchar mis oraciones. Muchos cristianos entienden que la oración es importante en sus vidas. Muchos saben que deben orar frecuentemente. La triste realidad es que muchos creyentes tienen serios problemas desarrollando una vida de oración con confianza.

La oración es uno de los increíbles privilegios en la vida del creyente. En este pasaje, el apóstol Juan nos está llamando a que ejercitemos ese privilegio que tenemos como hijos de Dios. El escribe; “Y esta es la confianza que tenemos en él, que si pedimos alguna cosa conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye” (1 Juan 5:14).  Oración es la parte expresiva y comunicativa de nuestra relación con Dios. Tan importante es la oración que el único pedido hecho por los discípulos a Jesús fue; “Maestro, enséñanos a orar” (Lucas 11:1).

A través de la Biblia encontramos muchas promesas donde se nos asegura que Dios escucha y responde a nuestras oraciones. Jeremías 33:3 nos presenta una de las promesas más hermosas de la Biblia; “Clama a mí y yo te responderé y te mostrare cosas grandes y ocultas que tú no conoces”. Puedes orar con confianza porque sabes que Dios escucha tus oraciones. Él va a contestar de acuerdo a su santa y divina voluntad. Dios conoce lo que es mejor para tu vida. Oración solo puede ser una comunicación efectiva con Dios cuando le damos la oportunidad a Él para que hable a nuestros corazones a través del Espíritu Santo. La oración, en ocasiones, puede ser algo difícil, pero recuerda, Dios siempre escucha tu oración. Que Dios te bendiga y te guarde siempre.

La oración no es un monólogo, sino un diálogo, la voz de Dios es su parte más esencial. Escuchar la voz de Dios es el secreto de la seguridad de que Él escuchará a la mía". Andrew Murray

Praying with Confidence

1 John 5:14-17

Have you ever wondered why we struggle on our prayer life? For many, prayer is not an easy task and many people have a great difficulty communicating with God through prayer. I think we often have trouble praying because we think God is too busy to hear our prayers. Many Christians understand that prayer is important in their lives. Many know they should pray often. The sad reality is that many believers have a serious problem developing a prayer life with confidence.

Prayer is one of the amazing privileges in the life of the believer. In this passage, the apostle John is calling us to us to exercise the privilege we have as children of God. He writes;, "This is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to his will , he hears us" (1 John 5:14). Prayer is the expressive and communicative part of our relationship with God. Prayer is so important that the only request made by the disciples to Jesus was; " Lord, teach us to pray" ( Luke 11:1 ).

The Bible contains many promises that God hears and answers our prayers. Jeremiah 33:3 presents one of the most beautiful promises of the Bible; "Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know." You can pray with confidence because you know that God hears your prayers. He will answer according to His holy and divine will. God knows what is best for your life. Prayer can only be an effective communication with God when we give Him the opportunity to speak to our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Prayer sometimes can be difficult, but remember, God always hears your prayer. May God bless you and keep you always.

Your Faith under Attack/Tu Fe bajo Ataque

Your faith under attack

Luke 22:31-34 "Lord, these other people may deny you and leave you, but I do not".

It is a fact of life: people make promises they cannot keep. When people make promises, they made then ​​with good intentions. However, sometimes, circumstances and pressures come up to us and do not fulfill those promises. In this passage in Luke's gospel, the apostle Peter makes a promise to Jesus, which later could not keep. Peter trusted his own strength to fulfill his promise, but he failed.

When your faith is under attack, you must have confidence in Jesus instead of your own strength. You must have the assurance that God never fails. He is always interested in your life. He knows that these attacks are difficult for your life, but are necessary to grow in faith. When your faith is under attack, it is an opportunity for your character to mature and grow. You must be sure that through the test, eventually you will succeed. And even when you fail in your test of faith, like Peter, you can learn from those mistakes, and those lessons are valuable to your life .

James 1:2-4 says, " Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, no lacking anything”. The attacks on your faith will make you into a humble servant of God. These attacks will teach you to apply God's truths to your life and the lives of others. May the Lord bless you and keep you always.

Tu fe bajo ataque

Lucas 22:31-34 “Señor, estas otras personas quizás te nieguen y te abandonen, pero yo no”.

Es un hecho de la vida: las personas hacen promesas que no pueden cumplir. Cuando las personas hacen promesas, las hacen con buenas intenciones. Sin embargo, en ocasiones, circunstancias y presiones vienen sobre la vida de las personas y no le permiten cumplir esas promesas. Este pasaje en el evangelio de Lucas, el apóstol Pedro hace una promesa a Jesús, la cual mas tarde no pudo cumplir. Pedro confió en sus propias fuerzas para cumplir con su promesa, pero el fallo.

Cuando tu fe esta bajo ataque, debes tener la confianza en Jesús en vez de tus propias fuerzas. Debes tener la seguridad que Dios nunca falla. El siempre esta interesado en tu vida. El conoce que estos ataques son difíciles para tu vida, pero son necesarios para crecer en la fe. Cuando tu fe esta bajo ataque, es una oportunidad para que tu carácter madure y crezca. Tu debes tener la seguridad que a través de la prueba, eventualmente tendrás éxito. Y aun cuando falles en tu prueba de fe, como Pedro, puedes aprender de esos errores, y esas lecciones son valiosas para tu vida.

Santiago 1:2-4 dice: “Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando os halláis en diversas pruebas, sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe produce persistencia. Y la persistencia deber llevar a feliz termino la obra para que sean perfectos e íntegros sin que les falte nada”.

Los ataques en tu fe te convierten en un siervo humilde de Dios. Estos ataques te enseñaran a aplicar las verdades de Dios a tu vida y la vida de otros. Que el Señor te bendiga y te guarde siempre.

Standing Up through the Storms of Life

Matthew 7:24-27

On Oct. 17, 1989 a massive earthquake struck the San Francisco area and the people there gave a lot of thought to the foundation they were built on. Buildings built on solid ground sustained much less damage than those built on "filled in" areas. The south pier of the Golden Gate Bridge sits directly on top of the San Andreas Fault! Yet it was undamaged in that quake because the weight of the bridge rests on the two towers deeply embedded into the rock beneath the sea. Remember that double-decker freeway in Oakland that collapsed? It was built on land that had been filled in. It all looked the same until the time of testing![1]

All of us build our lives in some kind of foundation. There are only two options, a solid and deep foundation or a weak and shallow foundation. This principle applies not only to the construction of buildings or bridges, also applies to our personal lives, our families, our jobs, our nation. Foundation matters. Jesus tells us that the foundation of our life must be Him Our foundation must be our faith in Jesus. Faith in His Word and faith in His promises for our lives.

We will survive the storms of life, if we build on the concrete foundation, which is Christ Jesus. Why? Because our strength will not comes from us, but from God. I will not trust my own strength or wisdom, but God. My focus will not be on my present struggle, but on my future hope. May be you are in a storm today. Trust in the Lord. He is our Rock and Salvation. May the Lord bless you and keep you always.

De Pie en las Tormentas de la Vida

Mateo 7:24-27

El 17 de octubre 1989, un terremoto de gran intensidad sacudió la zona de San Francisco y la gente de allí le dio mucho pensamiento a la fundación que sus propiedades fueron construidas. Los edificios construidos en tierra firme sufrieron muchos menos daños que las construidas en las áreas rellenas. El muelle sur del puente Golden Gate se encuentra directamente en la parte superior de la falla de San Andreas. Sin embargo, no fue dañado en que sismo porque el peso del puente se apoya en las dos torres profundamente incrustadas en la roca bajo el mar. ¿Recuerdan la autopista de dos niveles que se derrumbó en Oakland? Fue construido en un terreno que había sido rellenado. Todo parecía igual hasta el momento de la prueba.

Todos nosotros construimos nuestras vidas en una especie de fundación. Solo hay dos opciones; una fundación solida y profunda o una fundación débil y llana. Este principio no solamente aplica a la construcción de edificios o puentes también aplica a nuestra vida personal, nuestra familia, empleo, nuestra nación. La fundación importa. Jesús nos dice que la fundación de nuestra vida debe ser El.  Nuestra fundación debe ser nuestra fe en Jesús. Fe en Su Palabra y Sus promesas para nuestra vida.

Nosotros vamos a poder sobrevivir las tormentas de la vida, si nosotros construimos en la fundación concreta que es Cristo Jesús. ¿Por qué? Porque nuestra fuerza no viene de nosotros, sino de Dios. No voy a confiar en mis propias fuerzas o sabiduría, sino en la de Dios. Mi enfoque no será en la batalla presente, sino en la esperanza futura. ¿Estas atravesando por alguna tormenta de la vida hoy? Confía en el Señor. El es nuestra Roca Fuerte y Salvación. Que el Señor te bendiga y te guarde siempre.
